Top Ten Grocery Stores in America

It is that time of the week again: time to go grocery shopping for the family. Where do you go?

There are so many choices in the United States to go to from giant chains, like Wal-Mart and Target, to smaller family owned operations, like where my mom went growing up called Goretti's. Here at Saverr, we really enjoy all of them, from the big to the small.

Below is a list of the top ten grocery chains in the country, as judged by 24,203 readers of Consumer Reports magazine. They are all over the country and were chosen for reasons from cleanliness to price.

10. Stater Bros
9. Hy-Vee
8. Raley's
7. Market Basket
6. Harris Teeter
5. Costco
4. Fareway Stores

Now for the big three!

                                                      3. Publix
This well known southern chain offers great service and promises cleanliness, but it comes at a cost: Price! It seems like Saverr needs to make an appearance below the Mason-Dixon Line.

2. Trader Joe's
Their slogan "Your Neighborhood Grocery Store" really rings true in California, where half of the countries locations call home. While earning high marks in cleanliness, price, and service, the chain seems to need to do better in the perishable aisle.

1. Wegmans
This family-owned chain seems to have an extremely loyal following. People celebrate when a new location opens somewhere close to them. We at Saverr have only heard good things about the company and the food they sell. It is also often mentioned in "The Office". (Thats what she said) The chain scored high in service, perishables, and cleanliness, but need to work on their prices.

There you have it. The top ten grocery chains in the United States. Do you agree or disagree with these results? Lets us know in the comments!
